Whilst some people are of the belief that outdoor advertising has been vastly superseded by internet advertising and other more modern forms, most (including me) believe that it still has its place in the modern world. But where exactly should that place be? With lots more competition from other forms of marketing it is more important than ever to place your out of home advertising in the optimum location for it to have maximum affect.
So where are the best locations that will give you the best Outdoor Advertising exposure for your business or product?
High-street Hoardings –
The advertising hoardings that are situated in the middle of a busy high-street will always get great footfall. Many people will be walking past them on a daily basis and you will have the added bonus of the fact that these people will already be in the mood to shop. This is even better for local businesses as if your premises are in the local vicinity then the advert may persuade them to take advantage of their locality and make a trip to your establishment. High footfall will always be a big indicator of the perfect spot for your Outdoor Advertising
Bus Stops –
Two great things about bus stops are that they are usually in areas where many people can see them every day and you also have a captive audience for your ad. Anyone waiting at a bus stop will have the time to read and take in your advert and therefore it is likely to affect them more. Because people are generally at a bus stop for a sustained period of time; some of the best outdoor advertising in these locations is interactive. By giving them something to interact with while they are waiting you will help them pass the time and they will also become more aware of your brand.
The Roadside –
Although banners by the side of the road seem to be very low-tech in our technology conscious world; they still provide a great way for you to advertise your business. Reports suggest that we spend around 23 days a year just commuting to work and then you’ve still got to factor in everyone else who is travelling for different reasons. As we drive or sit on public transport we are generally very passive and this means we are usually highly susceptible to the advertising we see. Vinyl banners on the side of the road create a big and bold message that will be seen by thousands of people every day; whether they like it or not.
Unusual Places –
Whilst it is often best to place advertising where people expect to find it; you can get a surprisingly good response from ads that are situated in less expectant places. People won’t anticipate lifting up the toilet seat in the public toilet and finding an advert for bleach and so this is much more likely to stick in their mind than something they see every day. Other unusual places include the straps on a bus or tube train, tunnels or bridges on the road and zebra crossings. It’s all about coming up with something unique and clever which is going to take people by surprise and leave them with a lasting impression of your brand, that’s the cool thing about Outdoor Advertising.

Chris Mayhew works in marketing and knows that location has so much impact on how successful outdoor advertising is. He would recommend that anyone looking to advertise at the roadside gets a banner made by Big Value Banners.
