Many bloggers nowadays make twitters apps for their blogs for many reasons, like for allowing visitors to comment on their posts or for guest bloggers to submit their posts. However many people and that also includes me, doesn’t realize the downsides of using these apps and why twitter has made so easy to make app for non-techy people as well.
Twitter is nowadays all over media sites for their scammy practices and one of the reason is that twitter is looking to gather more data about how consumers use the platform so that they can make twitter more appealing to advertisers and to make visitors stay for longer, because generally bounce rate of visitors coming from social media websites is very high, approximately 90% and their stay period on site is also typically 10-40secs.! Whoa too low right? That’s why the big brother is finding ways to make visitors stay longer by collecting more data.
Big brother is cracking down on third party developers such as tweetbot, who use twitters Api to create their own platforms, thus that means twitter will have a lot more data on how it’s users are interacting with service to improve the product. However twitter covers this by saying that it will prevent malicious use of its apps and the information will help it to know what services are mostly accessed by developers. But does it really have this aim or some hidden agenda? Well what makes sense and what many other people are saying is that Twitter is doing so just to make itself more appealing for advertisers.
Twitter has a long history of their community suggesting different things that have becomes norms on their platform, however this might change because now they are enforcing the platform more strictly. If you are also one of those creating malicious websites and using twitters apps on it, don’t worry there is still some time to make changes, twitter hasn’t applied these changes yet and it will implement them by March 2013. In Short what blogging community needs to know about this change is that twitter’s guidelines will dissuade those websites that mimic the mainstream twitter experience, as it looks to protect its brand equity to make itself more appealing to advertisers.
Not all is bad; twitter is also creating great things for us bloggers it says that it will introduce twitter cards which is a great move from twitter. So what are twitter cards now? Twitter cards make it possible for publishers, content writers, and bloggers to attach virtually anything into tweets, like summary of news, pictures, articles or blog posts.

Great piece of writing. I have several blogs. But I never made a twitter app for my blogs. Thanks for sharing.
